From February to May 2012 I interned on NBC’s LATE NIGHT WITH JIMMY FALLON. Some people (including myself) find this hard to believe, so for any doubters out there, watch this video. Recognize that handsome face at 0:19 smiling and waving? If you squint hard enough, you might be able to see me on the couch!
Oh, how I wish I was online when this went up on Mondo. Amazing packaging!
Drive: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack | Mondo Records | Pink | /???
I already have one pressing of this, done by Invada Records in the UK. But Mondo promised a “deluxe” edition featuring custom artwork by Tyler Stout. So of course I’m a sucker a ponied up. The pressing was split between an unknown amount of copies on black and a smaller unknown amount of pink. The pink copies being randomly put into mailorder copies. Imagine how stoked I was to get home from tour this morning and open this baby up. Those center labels kick so much ass. I just love this movie and soundtrack. Definitely helped win me over onto the Gosling Team.
Here I am at Canadian Music Week talking about the importance of radio for Yangaroo DMDS with some fine Canadian indie talent.
Risky Business by Harlan Pepper (live on Studio A Sessions)
Nominated for Best Studio Production at 2012 TARA Awards.
The Show
STUDIO A SESSIONS was an intimate concert series filmed at Ryerson University I produced in conjunction with my group We Have To Go Back Productions. The show embraced the raw connection between artists and their instruments, offering music fans the chance to watch some of Canada’s finest musical talent showcase their original, honest songwriting.
The Episodes
1 - Julie Doiron with Darren Eedens
2 - Harlan Pepper with Donovan Woods
3 - Hooded Fang with Topanga (now called PUP)
STUDIO A SESSIONS helped raise $350 benefiting the Carlo Fidani Peel Ragional Cancer Centre.
In November 2009, Hamilton, ON’s Arkells stopped by Ryerson’s Rogers Communications Centre for an interview and acoustic performance on my radio show.
Here’s a rare performance of “Heart of the City” off their debut album Jackson Square.
From 2010 - 2011, I hosted a radio show on SpiritLive called Lost Minutes with Max Libman and Eddie Majnemer.
From 2008 - 2009, the show was called The B-Side (Ha! Get it? B - like Bram!)
With Lost Minutes, I was able to play the music I loved and interview some of my favourite bands including Frank Turner, Fucked Up and Attack In Black. Without a doubt, the biggest highlight for me was having Arkells stop by for an interview and acoustic performance. Influenced by comedic podcasts and late-night punk shows I stayed up listening to as a kid, Lost Minutes provided a platform for me to talk about whatever I wanted while playing music I believed in.
Now, I present to you the BEST OF LOST MINUTES, which won the award for Best SpiritLive Show at the 2011 TARA Awards. Thank you to Ryerson University, RTA School of Media and FCAD for giving me the chance to host my own radio show like I wanted to do since I was a punk 12 year old missing out on some much needed sleep.
Your pal,
Bram
I’ve recently been asked by a potential employer what my most embarrassing photo on my Facebook is. The irony in this situation is I’ve done my best over the years to avoid any embarrassing or “controversial” photos of myself surfacing online. Of course, if I’ve uploaded the photo to begin with, it’s a completely different story.
It’s no secret that I’ve been a loyal Frank Turner fan for a few years now. The picture above was taken following his set at The Horseshoe on October 22, 2010. It features the LOST MINUTES radio crew (from left to right: Eddie, Bram, Frank, Max) sweaty and smiling and OH MY GOD SO HAPPY. I can’t wait for my kids to make fun of me for this one.
Note to Past-Bram: You would wear a Gaslight Anthem shirt to a Frank Turner show, you handsome devil you.
The funny part of this is even though this picture is nearly 3 years old, I’d still smile as big if this picture were taken today. How embarrassing…
Julie Doiron performing “Tailor”
From Episode 1 of Studio A Sessions
During my last year at Ryerson, I produced an intimate concert series called Studio A Sessions. Here’s a taste.
From Episode 1, this is Darren Eedens performing “Shadows”.
Candy by The Men
I finally got around to listening to these guys. Admittedly, I missed all their shows at NXNE and even the couple I remember hearing about back in New York. There was just something about the name “The Men” that made me cringe (still does). Alas, Open Your Heart is great. It’s like Husker Du and Fucked Up got in a boxing match and decided to hug at the end. I can’t say no to that.
WHAT THE WHAAA?! MY HALF/BIRTHDAY’S SOON! BUY ME THIS!
In A Big City by Titus Andronicus
With a title like that, I really wish I was still in New York when this song came out. Alas, I was fortunate enough to hear the band play it (and some other new jams) when they opened up for Archers Of Loaf at the Music Hall of Billyburg. Pretty excited to hear how the recorded version of “Food Fight” turned out; it even got the Loaf fans dancing!
Anyways, turn it up and enjoy. Local Business comes out October 22 on XL.
#ComeAndGetIt @ Queen/Spadina. Probably has good sandwiches, but watery #poutine & shitty curds. Great fries though. #TOFood (Taken with Instagram at Come And Get It)
Time to start updating this site again. Summer’s over and I didn’t ride a roller coaster. So, here’s to that.
